I started thinking about simpler times. Summers playing in the
ditch
that ran beside our old brick house. My grandmothers attic. What
kind of treasures would I find if I rummaged through that old
dusty steamer trunk in the corner. I read a book once about the pioneers
and how money was very scarce if not completely nonexistent.
The
girls in the book were preparing for a cotillion and they
desperately wanted new dresses to wear. Their ever resourceful
mother used the canvas off their covered wagon and her skill
with
a needle and thread to make them. What a clever idea. Canvas and
embroidery thread. Canvas is obviously a little stiff to sew on
however, one of my favorite fabrics to use has always been the
very
versatile muslin. I love to tea dye it and stain it with
Kool-Aid
and every color of thread looks good on it. I have also been
drawn
to the idea of crazy quilts. But, a quilt is a pretty big
commitment...
Hence the birth of my "antique", crazy quilt, muslin teddy
bears!
